Happy Friday guys! Recipe of the day is Gouda Cheese & Onion Gratin – caramelised onion with creamy melted Gouda – simply heaven.
Gouda cheese is definitely one of my favourite – it just melts perfectly! Combined with sweet caramelised onions and cream, it’s pure deliciousness. Serve it with a side salad or any greens you fancy to balance out the cheesy goodness, and you’ve got yourself a gorgeous meal. Make sure to add some fresh bread too, and why not a glass of red? 🙂
This gratin reminds me of a French Onion Soup a lot, it’s kind of like its baked version though. 🙂 What I really love about it, apart from being so yummy is that it’s super quick and easy to make and uses a few ingredients only
What you need:
- onions
- double cream
- Gouda cheese
- nutmeg
- eggs
- salt and pepper
Here’s how to make this tasty Gouda Cheese & Onion Gratin:
Ingredients:
- 4 white onions, sliced
- 3 eggs
- 50g butter
- 300g Gouda cheese, grated
- 250ml double cream
- 1tsp nutmeg
- salt and pepper
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- In a pan add the butter and onions and leave them until they’re golden brown but not burnt. Make sure to stir constantly.
- In a bowl, mix the double cream, eggs, season with salt and pepper, nutmeg and add the grated Gouda cheese.
- Once the onions are cool, mix them in the mixture. Transfer to a greased oven proof dish and bake for about 25 minutes or until golden.
- Best served warm.
Enjoy!
