This is honestly one of the tastiest bread I’ve made and tried. I know, I probably say that a lot, but it is true. 🙂 It’s definitely one of my favs, just can’t decide between it and this Rosemary Focaccia. Am I allowed to have two number ones? 🙂

This is not an easy bread for sure, as you can probably imagine but is definitely doable. All you have to do is to follow the steps and enjoy the process! It is a lengthy process as the bread needs to rest. But I promise, it is all worth it, it is soo sooo delicious.

What you need:

  • plain flour
  • yogurt
  • butter
  • an egg
  • yeast
  • bicarbonate of soda
  • milk
  • water
  • sugar
  • salt

Here’s how to make this Amazing Tasty Butter Bread

Ingredients:

  • 500g plain flour, sifted
  • 10g yeast
  • 50ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2tbsp sugar
  • 200g butter, melted
  • 150ml lukewarm water
  • 3tbsp yogurt
  • 1tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2tsp salt

Preparation:

  • First, combine the yeast, milk, 1tbsp of the sugar and 1tbsp flour. Leave for 10 minutes until the mixture is really thick.
  • In a big shallow tray, add the sifted flour and make a well in the middle. Add the yogurt and bicarbonate of soda, mix well. Add sugar, salt, half of the butter, the egg and then the yeast mixture. Combine all the ingredients together, using a fork. Gradually add the lukewarm water and keep mixing with the fork. If your dough feels to dry, add a tiny bit more water. It should be moist but not sticky.
  • Once everything is well combined, transfer the dough to a floured worktop and start kneading for a few minutes. Then grease a bowl, place the dough inside and cover with cling film for an hour.
  • Dust your worktop with a bit of flour again and transfer the dough. Cut the dough in half and make two long sausages, approximately walnut diameter. Cut into small pieces and shape small (walnut-sized) balls. Place them on a grease baking tray (I used 26cm cake tin which works perfect). Leave for another 40 minutes until the y have doubled their size.
  • Meanwhile, combine the rest of the butter, 1tsp salt and 1tbsp flour.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • When the bread has rested, brush it with the butter mixture and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes. Leave to cool for 10 minutes. Brush with more butter, if wished.
